Doily Collage

3 weeks earlier: I am sitting at home, in my living room/office and I’m looking at my beautifully blue-yet incredibly bare walls. And these are high walls, which has them appear even more naked. You would think artists would be begging me to take their work off their hands to fill my walls with but um no….

So this long explanation continues to my self proclaimed brilliant ideaDoilies. They are cheap and fairly easy to find at thrift stores (and estate sales but 6am shopping trips are very rare for me). So, I wanted to gather a wonderful collection of crocheted beauties and combine them into delicate wall collages. Cheap, easy and visually appealing while also re-purposing someone’s throw-aways. Yeah me!

I of course thought this was a completely original idea but the misconception of my radness was fully apparent when I decided to shop for some doilies online yesterday. Saddly, I am not the first person to come up with the doily collage but I did come across some great inspiration and a ton of more doily crafting projects.
Take a look

This group of doilies are not actually attached but they were for sale as a lot on ebay and the seller displayed them wonderfully.

Lisa's Musings

Horribly adorable. This cluster will be hard to top. I actually have some small crocheted, floral decals that would be great to add to my wall instillation (just remembered those right now)

Embelished Doilies by Emma Cassi

This cluster is also not a collage but they are so perfectly feminine. Vintage doilies, hand embriodered with silver and gold sequins and beads, by Emma Cassi.

I’m not wild about the black doilies. I think with my blue walls, ivory and softer colors will look best but maybe a little embellishment…. I need to think more on this.

Doily and Lace Lampshades by Nice Etc

I love the large green doily in the top left hand corner but besides that one,  these are not my prefered style of doily. The netting is a little chintzy as well, but the concept is killer. I am thinking vintage lampshade with doilies glued on top.

Marilyn Stevens, Doily Armour, 2009

Eff me. We have now left the world of crafting. This is incredible and I am so stealing her idea. sorry.

I am hoping I will be posting the end result of my doily projects in the near future. I am not known for my follow through when it comes to craft projects but a regular craft night with friends has been lightly discussed these past few days so lets see if my friends and I can get our shhh together.

Ok, so I am tired of announcing that I will be blogging with some regularity and then I don’t keep up with my promises.   So, I am not going to say I will be posting with any consistency…. we can just see what happens.

These are 6 items that are currently in our etsy store and they are my favorites of the moment. I hope to post some new items that will be up in the store next week but I figure I could give a little preview of whats already in our jam packed store.

Merigold yellow vintage two piece blazer and skirt suit with ruffles.

Such a sweet two piece suit!

floral sun dress with yellow knit cardigan

plaid vintage 1970's crop pant and blazer, two piece suit

Another killer vintage 1970′s two piece suit

1980's black batwing sweater with silver sequinsI am not usually a glam gal but I dabble from time to time

sequins mini skirt and gray vintage blazer

I am still not sure if these are apples or cherries ???

Looking back, these outfits are all radically different, blah. Peace and love, with more updates in the work.  And possibly some personal style pics of myself….maybe.

Aya Smith, an adorable lady with a love for 40′s & 50′s dresses…. preferably in a plaid print. She has a good handful of plaid numbers but this is by far my favorite. Well done Lady!

This dress does not help my obsession with floral prints.

Liebemarlene is definitely a girl to watch. I check her blog on a fairly regular basis, to see what amazing dresses and outfits she has put together recently. I think she is a vintage magnet or she has some super vintage powers.

P.S. both of these ladies above have an ebay store and their own blogs….
