3 weeks earlier: I am sitting at home, in my living room/office and I’m looking at my beautifully blue-yet incredibly bare walls. And these are high walls, which has them appear even more naked. You would think artists would be begging me to take their work off their hands to fill my walls with but um no….
So this long explanation continues to my self proclaimed brilliant idea… Doilies. They are cheap and fairly easy to find at thrift stores (and estate sales but 6am shopping trips are very rare for me). So, I wanted to gather a wonderful collection of crocheted beauties and combine them into delicate wall collages. Cheap, easy and visually appealing while also re-purposing someone’s throw-aways. Yeah me!
I of course thought this was a completely original idea but the misconception of my radness was fully apparent when I decided to shop for some doilies online yesterday. Saddly, I am not the first person to come up with the doily collage but I did come across some great inspiration and a ton of more doily crafting projects.
Take a look
This group of doilies are not actually attached but they were for sale as a lot on ebay and the seller displayed them wonderfully.
Horribly adorable. This cluster will be hard to top. I actually have some small crocheted, floral decals that would be great to add to my wall instillation (just remembered those right now)
This cluster is also not a collage but they are so perfectly feminine. Vintage doilies, hand embriodered with silver and gold sequins and beads, by Emma Cassi.
I’m not wild about the black doilies. I think with my blue walls, ivory and softer colors will look best but maybe a little embellishment…. I need to think more on this.
I love the large green doily in the top left hand corner but besides that one, these are not my prefered style of doily. The netting is a little chintzy as well, but the concept is killer. I am thinking vintage lampshade with doilies glued on top.
Eff me. We have now left the world of crafting. This is incredible and I am so stealing her idea. sorry.
I am hoping I will be posting the end result of my doily projects in the near future. I am not known for my follow through when it comes to craft projects but a regular craft night with friends has been lightly discussed these past few days so lets see if my friends and I can get our shhh together.
